FP7 LEO: Official project launch

Recently the EC funded LEO project - aimed at developing innovative infrared baking ovens and supporting their commercialization - has been officially launched. The project kick-off meeting took place on 20-21 January 2014 in Agueda (Portugal).

The LEO project builds upon the results achieved in the earlier FP6 EU-FRESHBAKE project, where a prototype infrared oven was successfully built and tested in a laboratory environment by the French partner ONIRIS. In comparison with a standard baking oven, the pre-heating step with the prototype oven required between 20-40% less specific energy with a gain in time up to 70%.

Over the course of the two year project, the LEO project consortium of nine European partners will develop several full scale prototype infrared ovens and carry out a series of in-situ tests at French and German bakeries.
